ATHENS----- The Georgia gymnastics team is ranked No. 11 in the 2013 Preseason GymInfo Coaches Poll released Monday.
Alabama is ranked No. 1, followed by UCLA, Florida, Oklahoma, Utah, Stanford, Nebraska, LSU, Oregon State and Michigan to round out the top-10.
“I'm not surprised we are ranked 11th,” said UGA coach Danna Durante. “Typically the preseason poll puts teams fairly consistent with their finish the previous year. Those of us close to this team know the work we have put in, the hurdles we've overcome, and most importantly the heart and desire of this team.
“We are a tremendously talented team, however we will not depend only on our talent, but the hard work we put in each day both in and out of the gym. This team loves to compete and their confidence continues to grow. We are looking forward to kicking off our season in just a few weeks."
The Gym Dogs will face seven teams ranked in the top-10, including the season-opener against Oklahoma at Stegeman Coliseum on Jan. 5.
Georgia returns 11 gymnasts from last year’s team, including All-Americans Noel Couch, Shayla Worley, Lindsey Cheek, Chelsea Davis and Sarah Persinger. The Gym Dogs finished the 2012 season ranked 11th.
