Noel Couch Blog: Approach to Success
Put your deuces up because UGA is 2 and 0! That's right, our Georgia football team beat Buffalo at home and Missouri on the road the past two weeks. So proud of our boys. The entire Gym Dog team was in attendance at the home football game as we were honored at halftime. We received the Faculty Athletics Representatives Award for earning the highest team grade point average during the 2011-2012 season with a 3.46. How YOU doin'?! We put in a lot of time studying and meeting with tutors to achieve that award. We could have also received the Best Dressed Award with the stylish dresses everyone was sporting! A group of us stayed until the very end of the game, even in the heat. You can't leave during the fourth quarter of a football game, just like you can't leave during the fourth event of a Gym Dog meet. You just don't do it!
We celebrated a win for the Bulldogs and then celebrated Shayla's birthday the following day. She turned 21 plus 1! We hung out at her house giving her all the birthday attention she deserved. We played corn hole toss, grilled out, and started up a dance party. My little sis, Mikayla, also celebrated her birthday on the same day. She turned 19 up at Stonehill College in Massachusetts. She spent the day at the beach with all her friends. It was a Shaykayla birthday! I was so happy to know two of my favorite girls enjoyed such a fun time on their birthdays.
It was very nice to have off on Labor Day after the whimsical weekend. We jumped right back into things with class and gym on Tuesday. We had another round of skills testing and the coaches were pleased with our performances. Many girls are starting to work on choreography on beam and floor and I can't wait to see all the new routines. Our 2013 schedule was also released this week! We have a great schedule with six exciting home meets. Be sure to go check that out.
Shay and I attended the annual Student Athlete Advisory Committee Welcome Back Dinner as representatives for our team. We enjoyed a delicious meal as we had the opportunity to speak with members of the Athletic Association. We sat with Frank Crumley, Jim Booz, and David Shipley. We discussed the many happenings at UGA and had a few laughs while doing so. There was definitely plenty of Georgia history and pride in attendance as assistant athletic director, Charley Whittemore claimed to be the oldest, or shall we say, the wisest, of the group. He was a three-year starter and recipient of several awards for the Georgia football team. What a guy! He goes down in my book earning Rock Star Status!
We wrapped up the weekend with our Gym Dog photo shoot. We flashed our pearly whites for the photos that will appear on the poster and other promotional items. Make-up artist, Shayla, was getting some pre- season practice in as she made our eyes sparkle and shine.
As the weekend comes to a close, conditioning, tests, practice, and meetings are right around the corner. I leave you with a word of the week... Approach. Approach is conscious choice that we all make. I'm kicking off this week with an approach to maintain a positive, respectful, inspiring outlook. How will YOU approach and show up for each day? Have a fantastic week and be sure to follow the Gym Dogs and me @UGAGymnastics and @JerseyGymdog6 on Twitter. We also have a great Facebook page and Instagram at ugagymdogs. You don't want to miss any of the action!
