ATHENS-----The Georgia gymnastics team will face eight teams that competed at the 2012 NCAA Championships, including home meets against four Super Six teams as the Gym Dogs' 2013 schedule was announced Tuesday.
"From top to bottom we have an incredibly challenging schedule," said Georgia head coach Danna Durante. "We will have many opportunities to test our skills and compete against some of the best in the country, starting with the first meet against Oklahoma. This is a schedule that will prepare us for the postseason."
The Gym Dogs will host defending NCAA champion Alabama (Feb. 2) and runner-up Florida (Feb. 16), in addition to Stanford (Jan. 21) and Utah (March 9), which also qualified for the 2012 NCAA Super Six. UGA also has home dates against Oklahoma in the season-opener on Jan. 5 and Auburn on Jan. 18.
"Our home schedule is incredibly strong," Durante said. "It will be great for our fans to see some exciting, high-level gymnastics. On a personal note, I have close ties to many of these coaches, so I am looking forward to seeing them."
Georgia's schedule includes road meets at Arkansas (Jan. 11), Kentucky (Feb. 8), new SEC member Missouri (Feb. 22), LSU (March 1) and NC State (March 17).
The Gym Dogs will also trek to Ft. Worth, Texas, on Jan. 26 for the Metroplex Challenge, which includes Oklahoma, LSU, Oregon State and Washington. The trip will give Texas natives Kati Breazeal, Chelsea Davis and Christa Tanella a chance to compete in their home state for the first time as a collegiate gymnast.
The SEC Championships will be held March 23 in North Little Rock, Ark., and will include two sessions this year. The NCAA Regionals are scheduled for April 6 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Norman, Okla., Corvallis, Ore., Columbus, Ohio, Gainesville, Fla., and Morgantown, W.Va.
UCLA will serve as host of the NCAA Championships to be held April 19-21 in Los Angeles.
