Aug. 14, 2012
ATHENS-----Seven members of the 2012 University of Georgia gymnastics team earned National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) Scholastic All-America honors, it was announced Tuesday.
Kat Ding and Noel Couch were recognized for the third straight year, while Bekah Bennetts was named NACGC/W Scholastic All-America for the second straight year. Kati Breazeal, Laura Moffatt, Camille Pfister and Shayla Worley also received the honor.
Gymnasts were recognized for attaining a year-long or cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
"I'm really grateful to represent UGA both athletically and academically," Worley said. "The success that our team has had in the classroom shows that we are as serious about our academics as we are in the gym. It is our goal to do everything with excellence."
Earlier this summer, the UGA gymnastics team was cited as one of the country's top academically performing teams by the annual NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) public recognition announcement. The Gym Dogs were the top UGA squad academically for the 2011 fall and 2012 spring semesters, most recently with a team grade point average of 3.52 in the spring.
