Former Gym Dogs - Where Are They Now?

Carol Phillips Cotton (1973-75) has been a faculty member at UGA in the College of Public Health, Department of Health Promotion and Behavior for 16 years. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate classes, primarily health promotion program development and global health promotion. She is also a founding faculty member of the Croatia Maymester Study Abroad program. She is married to Mike Cotton, who is retired from Ford Motor Company, and they have two children: Kendra (29) and Kyle (26). Cotton has been a board member for the 10-O Club for approximately 10 years. She is a past president and currently serves as secretary for the board as well as the membership chairperson. 

Christy Bedelle Morrell (1991)
is a teacher at Oconee County Elementary School. She is married to Jim Morrell, owner of Padgett Business Services Watkinsville and Moon's Supermarket in Greensboro. They have a son, Justin (18), who recently graduated from Oconee County High School and will attending Georgia Southern in the fall, and a daughter, Caylee (16), who will be a junior at Oconee County High School and is a dancer with the Senior Company at the Oconee Youth School of Performance.

Heather Stepp McCormick (1990-93) serves as regional director of development for UGA covering (and often visiting Gym Dogs living in) Washington D.C., Dallas, Louisiana and a few areas along the gulf coast. 

Kim Arnold Arenas (1995-98), along with her husband and former UGA baseball player Pete Arenas, owns Georgia Elite Gymnastics in Watkinsville, Ga. (gym of current UGA gymnast Morgan Reynolds and former Gym Dog Lindsey Cheek). Kim and Pete have four children: Isabel (15) Elena, (12) Ava (4) and Alex (3). 

Karin Lichey Usry (1996-99) serves as an event planner for the UGA Foundation. She is married to Mike Usry, and they have two children: Ayn Parker and Brandt.

Kelsey Ericksen Pohlman (2004-07) graduated from the UGA Veterinary School in May 2012 and completed a rotating internship in Atlanta at Blue Pearl Georgia Veterinary Specialists. She married former UGA men’s basketball athletic trainer Colby Pohlman in July 2013, and they currently reside in Fort Collins, Colo., where Kelsey serves as a radiation oncology resident at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. They are the owners of an eight-year old black lab named Beamer.   

Suzanne Yoculan (1984-2009) was recently chosen for induction into the UGA Circle of Honor. She is married to Don Leebern, and they live in Athens. She has two children: Adam and Alexis, and a daughter-on-law, Tatiana. Her daughter Ali is engaged to Brent Ericksen.

Grace Taylor Johnson (2007-10) - after completing her eligibility - earned a B.S. in Health Promotion and Behavior and a M.S. in Nonprofit Organizations. She currently serves as assistant executive director at Mercy Health Center, a free clinic for the low-income and uninsured. Her job involves grant-writing, program management, and coordinating student-service learning and research. Her organization provides whole-person healthcare for nearly 2000 uninsured members of the community. She is married to Andrew Johnson, and the couple recently celebrated their fourth anniversary. He is a dual MBA/MD student and is in his first year of clinical rotations. They are the owners of a two-year old beagle, Daisy Mae.

Cassidy McComb (2008-11) is entering her second season as volunteer coach for the Gym Dogs.

Noel Couch (2010-13) currently serves as communications intern for the American Junior Golf Association.

Christa Tanella (2010-13) was recently accepted into UGA’s professional counseling graduate school program and plans to be in Athens for two more years. She also plans to be part of the Gym Dogs’ support staff for the upcoming season.

Shayla Worley (2010-13) recently moved to Atlanta for her new job at Credit Suisse in the private wealth management industry.

Kaylan Earls (2011-14) currently serves as an intern for UGA IMG New Media.

Cat Hires (2011-14) will be a graduate student in UGA’s Sports Management program this fall, and she will also work as an intern for UGA IMG New Media. She plans to pursue a career in sports broadcasting.
