ATHENS-----Brittany Rogers, who will be a freshman on the 2013 University of Georgia gymnastics team, has earned a spot on the Canadian Olympic team.
A native of Coquitlam, B.C., Rogers placed third overall in the Canadian Olympic Trials in Gatineau, Que., to secure one of five spots on the team's roster. She placed first on bars and vault on the opening day of competition on Tuesday, and finished second on bars and fourth on beam on the final day.
The artistic gymnastics portion of the Olympics will take place July 28-Aug. 7 at North Greenwich Arena.
Rogers is the ninth gymnast in Georgia history to qualify for the Olympics, and she is among 13 athletes with ties to the University of Georgia who have earned spots to the 2012 London Games.
Rogers took home a silver medal on vault and finished sixth in the all-around at the Canadian Gymnastics Championships in May. She placed fourth in the all-around in 2011 and won a silver medal on vault at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Croatia.
