ATHENS, Ga. --- University of Georgia senior gymnast Cassidy McComb was named co-Southeast Region Gymnast of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) following her performance at this weekend’s NCAA Regional in Athens. McComb shares the honor with Florida sophomore Ashanee Dickerson.

The Nevada native took third in the all-around on Saturday while tying for second on floor and third on bars with a 9.9 on both events. It marks the first regional award of McComb’s career.

She has competed in the all-around in 15 straight meets for the Gym Dogs, and has won at least one individual title in 10 of Georgia’s 13 meets this season with 17 total after winning just one individual title all season in 2010.

In the latest edition of the GymInfo rankings, McComb is No. 4 nationally in the all-around with an RQS of 39.440 in addition to a ranking of fifth on floor exercise with a 9.900.

Additionally, UGA Executive Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Carla Williams was named Administrator of the Year for the Southeast Region. Williams – who was a four-year letterwinner for the Lady Bulldog basketball team from 1986-89 – has occupied her current post as SWA since 2004. She serves as the sport administrator for women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming & diving, and equestrian in addition to her work with the Gym Dogs. She also has supervisory responsibility for the academic counseling unit, compliance, and the CHAMPS/Life Skills program.

The Gym Dogs used a second-place finish at the regional meet to earn one of the 12 spots in the 2011 NCAA Gymnastics Championships April 15-17 in Cleveland, Ohio.
