ATHENS-----Four University of Georgia gymnasts have been named to the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) All-America Team.
Senior Lindsey Cheek was named to the first team on bars and second team on vault and beam, Chelsea Davis and Kaylan Earls were named to the first team on bars and beam, respectively, while Brittany Rogers earned second-team honors on bars and the all-around.
Cheek placed first on vault, bars and beam a total of 17 times this season and recorded career-high scores on all three events with a 9.975 on vault and bars and a 9.95 on beam. She is currently tied for second in the nation on bars, tied for ninth on beam and tied for 16th on vault with an RQS higher than a 9.9 on all three events. The Watkinsville, Ga., native was voted SEC Event Specialist of the Year last week.
Davis is tied with Cheek for No. 2 on bars with a 9.945 RQS. A junior from Austin, Texas, she has scored a 9.9 or higher 10 out of 12 times this season, including a career-high 9.975 in the win over LSU on Jan. 17.
Earls has served as Georgia's anchor on beam in all 12 meets this season. She has registered the team's highest mark on that event six times, including a career-best 9.95 three times. The Chicago native is ranked seventh in the country on beam.
Rogers is the only Gym Dog to compete in the all-around this season, and she did so in all 11 regular season meets. She scored a 39.6 in the regular season-finale at Utah, and she is currently ranked 11th in the country. A native of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Rogers also recorded career-highs on vault, bars and floor this season. She is tied for ninth nationally on bars.
Sixth-ranked Georgia will be in action Saturday, April 5 as the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Athens Regional. The field also includes Michigan, Central Michigan, Ohio State, NC State and Rutgers. The top-two teams advance to the national championships.
