March 12, 2013
ATHENS-----Georgia gymnast Brittany Rogers has been named SEC Freshman of the Week for the third time this season, it was announced Tuesday by the league office.
In Georgia's win over Utah last Saturday, Rogers turned in the highest all-around score by a Georgia freshman since Courtney Kupets in 2006. Her 39.575 helped lead the Gym Dogs to their highest score of the season in a 197.650-196.975 win over the Red Rocks.
Rogers' performance included career-highs 9.95 on vault to tie for first and a 9.9 on floor. She also tied for the team lead on the balance beam with a 9.875 and added a 9.85 on bars. Her efforts helped the Gym Dogs score a season-high on floor exercise and their second-highest marks of the year on vault and beam.
Rogers has won six event titles, including two in the all-around and vault and one on bars and beam, and is the only Georgia gymnast to win titles on three different events. She is ranked sixth nationally on bars with a 9.905 RQS and 13th on vault with a 9.9.
The Coquitlam, British, Columbia native was also named SEC Freshman of the Week on Feb. 19 and Jan. 29. Rogers and the Gym Dogs will wrap up the regular season Sunday at NC State.
