ATHENS-----Georgia junior Chelsea Davis has been named the SEC Gymnastics Event Specialist of the Week, and Kiera Brown has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, according to an announcement Tuesday by the league office.
Davis and Brown helped lead the Gym Dogs to scores of 197.400 and 197.175 and a pair of wins over No. 2 LSU on Friday and Iowa on Monday. Georgia's 197.400 against the Hawkeyes is the second-highest score of any team in the country this season.
A native of Austin, Texas, Davis scored a career-high 9.975 on bars against LSU to move into the No. 1 spot in the national rankings. She also tied her career-high with a 9.9 in the leadoff position on vault.
Brown turned in a career-high 9.95 on bars against Iowa - the first of three consecutive 9.95s by the Gym Dogs. It was the first career event title for the Newport News, Va., native.
Florida's Bridget Sloan was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week.
The sixth-ranked Gym Dogs will take on the Florida Gators Friday at 7 p.m., in Gainesville, Fla.
