Gym Dogs' Kaylan Earls Out For Season With Achilles Injury
Jan. 2, 2011
ATHENS -- Georgia freshman Kaylan Earls will miss the 2011 gymnastics season after she ruptured her Achilles tendon while training in Athens on Thursday. Earls is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday.
A native of Chicago, Earls was a Junior Olympic national all-around champion in 2008 and 2009 and was a seven-time national qualifier. She was also a Level 10 Illinois state all-around champion in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Earls, who was in the lineup on vault, beam and floor during the Gym Dogs' preseason workouts, plans to redshirt the 2011 season and will be ready to train again this summer.
"It's a big loss, but we've been here before," head coach Jay Clark said. "We are depleted right now, but we'll keep plugging along and try to get healthy. That's all we can do."
Georgia opens the season in a quad-meet against Denver, Air Force and BYU Saturday in Denver, Colo.
