Bulldogs Participate In `Learn, Play, Excel'
2006: NCAA All-Around, Uneven Bars and Balance Beam Champion. First-Team All-American on beam, bars, floor and the all-around. Second-Team All-American on vault. Only Georgia's second gymnast to win three NCAA individual titles in one year, matching freshman Hope Spivey in 1991. In both team competitions at the NCAA Championships she finished with scores of 9.9 or better in eight of nine tries. Her 9.975 on vault in the final rotation of the Super Six set her career high. All-SEC. At the end of the regular season was the nation's top-ranked gymnast in the all-around, No. 2 on bars and beam, No. 3 on floor and No. 4 on vault. No other gymnast was ranked in the nation's top 5 on every event. Georgia's seventh SEC Freshman of the Year. Won the SE Regional bars title with a 9.95. Tied for first place on the uneven bars at the SEC Championships. The SEC's three best all-around scores of 39.7 at Utah, 39.75 in the Super Six Finals, and 39.8 at Michigan. Her 39.8 in Ann Arbor tied for Georgia's best all-around total away from Athens (Agina Simpkins, 1993 NCAA Prelims). Won the all-around competition in 10 of 13 meets that she competed all four events including seven straight from Feb. 10 - March 11. Her 40 scores of 9.9 or better are second all-time among Gym Dogs, trailing only Karin Lichey's one-year record of 42 from the 1999 season. Scored Georgia's only 9.9s of the night at Alabama on vault and beam. Placed first in every event she entered at Florida, scoring a 9.9 on vault, a 9.95 on bars and a 9.925 on beam. Three times was named SEC Gymnast of the Week. In the Oklahoma meet she competed in the fifth spot in the floor lineup, going just ahead of sister Ashley for the only time this year.
High School: A member of the 2004 U.S. Olympic team, winning the silver medal in the overall team competition at the Athens Games as well as a bronze on the individual uneven bars...She also finished ninth in the individual all-around and fifth on the balance beam...Named the 2004 USA Gymnastics Co-Athlete of the Year and USOC Athlete of the Month for June...U.S. National Champion on beam and co-champ in the all-around in 2004, but was alone in first-place in the all-around at the 2005 U.S. Olympic Team Trials...Joins a list of six former Gym Dogs who were Olympic-team members, including Eileen Diaz (Puerto Rico, 1996), Stacey Galloway (Canada, 1992), Hope Spivey (USA, 1988), Lori Strong (Canada, 1988 and 1992), Andrea Thomas (Canada, 1984), and Lucy Wener (USA, 1984)...A member of the gold-medal winning team at the 2003 World Championships although she did not compete due to an Achilles injury...Named the 2003 USA Gymnastics Athelte of the Year...In 2002 Kupets won a world championship on the uneven bars, becoming just the third American woman to win the event and first U.S. world champion since 1994...Daughter of Mark and Patti Kupets...Has two brothers, Mark and Christopher...Sister Ashley is an All-American junior for the Gym Dogs...Born: July 27, 1986...Recipient of the Leon Farmer Athletic Scholarship.
