ATHENS --- Marta Silva Zamora was named first-team All-America by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) at the conclusion of the NCAA Championships last weekend.
Silva Zamora, a sophomore from Santiago del Compostela, Spain, finished the 2009-10 season with a 72.85 stroke average, the second-best effort in the history of Georgia women's golf. She was the Bulldogs' top individual finisher in nine of 12 events, posting seven top-10 finishes. Silva Zamora captured medalist honors at both the Duramed Cougar Classic and the Eat-A-Peach Collegiate and notched two more second-place and two additional third-place performances. She posted counting scores in 29 of 30 rounds played in team competition, with 15 par-or-better tallies.
Silva Zamora, who also was a first-team All-SEC selection, was an honorable mention All-American as a freshman. All told, 26 Georgia women's golfers have now combined to earn 43 All-America certificates, including 16 first-team recognitions.
