Caithness, Silva Advance At Ladies British Amateur

NORTH BERWICK, Scotland --- Georgia rising sophomore Krystle Caithness and incoming freshman Marta Silva advanced through stroke play qualifying on Wednesday and Thursday into match play competition at the Ladies British Open Amateur Championship at North Berwick Golf Club.

On Friday, Caithness will face Naomi Edwards, the reigning English Women's Close Amateur Champion, in her first-round match, while Silva will take on Kira Meixner, a Canadian who just completed her senior season at Kent State.

Caithness tied for 26th after carding rounds of 77 and 74 to finish at 7-over 151. Silva shot 80 and 73 in qualifying to tie for 41st at 9-over 153. Rising junior Carolina Andrade failed to reach match play after rounds of 81 and 79.

Caithness is a native St. Andrews, Scotland, who posted a 3-0 record while competing for Great Britain and Ireland against the U.S. in the Curtis Cup a week and a half ago. She reached the quarterfinals of last year's Ladies British Am.

Silva, a native of La Courna, Spain, advanced to the Round of 16 at the 2007 Ladies British Am.
