Georgia Golfers Continue Busy Stretch

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The No. 17-ranked Georgia women's golf team will return to action on Friday, the Bulldogs' third competition in March.

Georgia will compete in the Tiger/Wave Classic at English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans. The 54-hole event includes 18 holes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and is being co-hosted by LSU and Tulane.

Georgia's playing five will consist of senior Carolina Andrade, sophomores Milena Savich and Marta Silva Zamora and freshmen Emilie Burger and Kendall Wright.

"I like this lineup," head coach Kelley Hester said. "Everyone in the lineup this weekend has shown the capability to play some great golf. I think they've all earned their way into the lineup. Right now, this is probably the best five we have."

Half of the top-20 schools in the latest Golfstat rankings are entered in the 23-team event. No. 2 Auburn leads that pack, which also includes No. 5 Purdue, No. 7 Alabama, No. 10 Wake Forest, No. 13 Vanderbilt, No. 16 Tennessee, the No. 17 Bulldogs, No. 18 Virginia and No. 20 LSU. Also competing are Arkansas, the College of Charleston, Furman, Kentucky, Louisville, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, North Carolina, N.C. State, UNC Wilmington, Notre Dame, TCU, Tulane and UCF.

"We'll try to position ourselves to play for the championship on Sunday," Hester said. "We've done a good job with that this spring. We just haven't been able to push through and get a win. Hopefully, we'll learn from some of our mistakes and peak at the right time. I feel like we're headed in the right direction to play our best golf late in the spring."

Hester believes the English Turn layout will be a very challenging test.

"It's a demanding golf course," Hester said. "It's a great venue. I still don't think we've hit our stride and this weekend gives of a good chance to gain momentum leading into the Liz Murphey and the post season."
