STANFORD, Calif. --- Rocio Sanchez Lobato's even-par 71 paced the Georgia women's golf team en route to a 6-over 290 in the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate on Saturday.
The Bulldogs trimmed 14 strokes off their first-round score and recorded the eighth-best team score of the day but climbed just one spot on the leaderboard.
"It was a much better day today, but it could have been better," head coach Josh Brewer said. "It feels good to have everyone play well at the same time and still we kind of walked off of the course disappointed. We missed a few chances or we would have shot around even par. To be disappointed with a 6-over after yesterday's round is a positive."
In addition to Sanchez Lobato, Georgia also counted a trio of 2-over 73 from Manuela Carbajo Ré, Harang Lee and Sammi Lee, while discarding Amira Alexander's 75.
The Bulldogs teed off from No. 10 and played the back side of the course first on Saturday. After an opening par, Sanchez Lobato bogeyed No. 11, birdied No. 12, bogeyed No. 13 and birdied No. 14 to remain at even through five holes. She then recorded 13 straight pars to wrap up her day.
"Ro made a couple of very good par saves but for the most part she just hit the green and two-putted all day," Brewer said. "We talked about that as a team this morning, to try to keep is simple. I guess she listened really well."
The Bulldogs are a 594 through 36 holes. No. 2 Southern Cal is a 20-under 548, eight shots better than No. 1 UCLA.
Southern Cal's Sophia Popov shot 4-under 67 on Saturday and owns a three-shot lead on the individual field. For Georgia, Harang Lee and Sanchez Lobato are tied for 41st at 147, Alexander and Carbajo Ré are tied for 60th at 151 and Sammi Lee is tied for 67th at 152.
