Freshman Harang Lee led Georgia on Friday.

STANFORD, Calif. --- The Georgia women's golf team posted a 304 in the opening round of the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Condoleezza Rice on Friday. No. 2 Southern Cal shot 276 to grab a six-shot lead on the field.
Freshman Harang Lee's 3-over 74 led Georgia on Friday. The Bulldogs also counted a pair of 76s from Amira Alexander and Rocio Sanchez Lobato and a 78 by Manuela Carbajo Ré. Sammi Lee signed for a 79, Georgia's drop score.
The Bulldogs turned at 7-over as a team but then struggled on the back side of the Stanford Golf Course layout.
"It was a strange day," head coach Josh Brewer. "The first six holes are brutal, and we played them at 6-over as a team. We played that stretch about as well as anyone in the field. You get through that and you think it's going to get better. Unfortunately, we made errors on the holes where you can make birdies. I think we were forcing it a bit instead of relaxing and playing golf. We've got to figure it out. If we can bounce back and put two good rounds together, we can beat some teams that we need to beat."
Individually, Sophia Popov's 5-under 66 spotted her a two-shot edge on the leaderboard. For Georgia, Harang Lee is tied for 45th, Alexander and Sanchez Lobato are knotted for 62nd, Carbajo Ré is tied for 72nd and Sammi Lee is tied for 76th.
Play continues through Sunday. On Saturday, the Bulldogs will be paired with Washington State and Oregon State. Live scoring is being updated on a three-hole basis at www.golfstat.com.
