Sept. 22, 2012
Franklin, Tenn. --- Senior Emilie Burger posted her second consecutive even-par 72 and moved from fourth to second on the individual leaderboard at the Mason Rudolph Challenge on Saturday. She is one shot off the pace of Arizona's Kendall Price entering the final round.
Georgia, playing with only four golfers, shot 306 and slipped to ninth in the team standings.
"Emilie is playing well," head coach Josh Brewer said. "She has a chance to get a great victory under her belt early in her senior year. Tomorrow will be a big day for her. I'm confident she'll come out and play well and give herself a chance."
In addition to Burger's tally, Georgia also counted a 75 by Rocio Sanchez Lobato, a 78 by Kailey Walsh and an 81 by Collins Bradshaw. Overall, Sanchez Lobato is tied for 11th at 147, Walsh is tied for 42nd at 155 and Bradshaw is tied for 68th at 161.
"Ro played well and is still just outside the top 10," Brewer said. "It's a hard mindset for kids to realize that 74 or 75 is a good golf score on this course. I'm actually pleased we're playing a course like this at this point in the season. Both individually and as a team it is has given us some very good things to work on. It tells us where we have to get better."
Burger was 2-under through 10. She bogeyed No. 2 but birdied No. 6, No. 7 and No. 10. A double-bogey at No. 11 put Burger at even, but she immediately returned to red numbers with a birdie at No. 12. After consecutive bogeys at No. 16 and No. 17 she closed with a birdie at No. 18.
Arizona sits atop the team leaderboard at 584, followed by Texas at 589, Texas A&M and Virginia both at 595, Michigan State at 596, Vanderbilt at 602, Kentucky at 604, Wake Forest at 605, the Bulldogs at 607 and Oregon at 610.
The Bulldogs will be paired with Kentucky and Wake Forest on Sunday, teeing off starting at 8:30 am ET. Three-hole updates of live scoring from the event can be found at www.golfstat.com.
