CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Georgia's women's golf team posted a 2-over 290 in the second round of the Cougar Classic on Monday. The Bulldogs dropped a spot to sixth in the 24-team field, 12 shots off the pace.
Georgia teed off from No. 10 and started quickly, covering the first six holes at 5-under. The Bulldogs dropped four of those strokes before the turn and played the front side at 3-over.
"We played really well part of the day," head coach Josh Brewer said. "Unfortunately, we had about an hour and a half where everyone seemed to play poorly."
Freshman Manuela Carbajo Re led Georgia with her second consecutive 2-under 70. The other counting scores came in the form of 73s from both Collins Bradshaw and Rocio Sanchez Lobato and a 74 from Emilie Burger. The Bulldogs' dropped Kailey Walsh's 75.
"I'm waiting for someone to have that 67 sort of day," Brewer said. "We certainly have a couple players who have that capability. Tomorrow is a chance for this team to make a statement early in the year. If you're going to be good, you should play well in the final round. Our goal tomorrow is to go low. If we do that, we could easily finish in the top two or three in a tournament with a bunch of the best teams in the country. That would be a good first step."
Overall, Carbajo Re is tied for fifth at 4-under 140, while Burger is tied for 22nd at 144, Bradshaw is tied for 28th at 145, Sanchez Lobato is tied for 51st at 148 and Walsh is tied for 72nd at 151. Florida's Camilla Hedberg owns the individual lead at 9-under 135.
The Gators top the team field as well at 11-under 565, three shots better than Southern Cal. Rounding out the top-10 teams are Vanderbilt at 574, Virginia and Auburn at 576, the Bulldogs and Duke at 577, N.C. State at 581, Alabama at 583 and Tennessee at 584.
