LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- The No. 8-ranked Georgia women's golf team split its two matches in the Gifford Great 8 Challenge on Monday. The Bulldogs dropped a 3-2 decision to Colorado in the opening round but bounced back to defeat Oregon, 4-1, in the afternoon.

The tournament features eight teams seeded by averaging their current national rankings according to Golfweek and Golfstat.

Harang Lee and Bailey Tardy won both of their matches to lead Georgia.

"Those were really good performances by Harang and Bailey," head coach Josh Brewer said. "They did what first-team All-Americans are supposed to do in match play, take early leads and get your team a point."

Third-seeded Georgia, which is ranked No. 8 by Golfstat and No. 9 by Golfweek, fell to the sixth seeded Colorado in the quarterfinals. Tardy and Lee were first and last on the course for the Bulldogs and won their matches. Tardy defeated Kirsty Hodgkins, 3-and-1, and Lee bested Gillian Vance, 1-up.

In the afternoon, the Bulldogs stormed back to win four of five matches. Tardy earned the most decisive victory, a 5-and-4 decision over Amy Matsuoka. Lee delivered another point with a 4-and-3 victory over Cathleen Santoso. Jillian Hollis bested Kelsey Ulep, 2-and-1. Mary Ellen Shuman wrapped up the scoring with a 1-up victory over Petra Salko.

"Jillian and Mary Ellen bounced back this afternoon and played much better," Brewer said.

In addition, Isabella Skinner won a pair of matches competing as an individual. Skinner's day was headlined by a win over UCLA's Hadas Libman, who represented the Bruins at last year's NCAA Championships.

Georgia will face Ohio State in the Bulldogs' final match of the tournament on Tuesday morning.
