Anthony Named National Rider of the Month
Dec. 13, 2011
ATHENS, Ga. - Carly Anthony was named the Varsity Equestrian Rider of the Month for November, as voted on by the coaches. This is the first time that the award, which is given to the athlete with the most outstanding performances in a month, has been given out.
"Being named Rider of the Month by the Varsity Equestrian coaches is a well-deserved honor for Carly," head coach Meghan Boenig said. "She is a true competitor and a tremendous teammate. This is such a huge honor for her and for the University of Georgia equestrian team."
Anthony competed in each of Georgia's four meets in November, playing a key role in wins over No. 4 South Carolina and No. 1 Auburn. The Redmond, Wash., native finished with a unblemished record of 8-0, including four wins in equitation on the flat and four in equitation over fences. Anthony has not dropped a point in any of her competitions this season.
Anthony also picked up six MVP honors, including four straight in equitation over fences. She swept the MVP awards on the Hunt Seat side against Auburn and Delaware State.
In November, Anthony scored over 90 on three separate occasions, including a season best of 93 in equitation over fences against Delaware State. Her season-best score in equitation on the flat was a 90 against South Carolina.
In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Anthony has shown tremendous leadership for the team. She organizes the preparation of the horses for competitions and takes great pride in the care of the horses and equipment. Anthony has also taken several freshmen under her wing and helped prepare them for competitions, including Megan Southam, who has three wins this season.
