Dec. 9, 2013

ATHENS, Ga. – Liza Finsness has been selected to participate in the prestigious George H. Morris Horsemastership Training Session. In its eighth year, this prestigious clinic will again be held at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, Fla., December 31-January 4. Finsness becomes the third Georgia rider to be selected for the training sessions, as Carly Anthony and Sarah Milliren each participated in 2012.

“It is such an honor to be chosen for this year’s George H. Morris clinic,” Finsness said. “I know that I will be learning a lot in the course of the event and I am anxious to see what one of the best riders in history will teach me. This is an incredible opportunity for me to grow as a rider and I am so happy that I was accepted into the group of participants.”

Finsness is in her first season with the Bulldogs and owns an 8-2 overall record that includes a 5-1 mark in Equitation on the Flat and a 3-1 record in Equitation Over Fences. She also has six MOP honors this season, with four coming in Equitation on the Flat and two in Equitation Over Fences. She has been named the SEC Rider of the Month in Equitation on the Flat twice (October, November) and was named the NCEA Rider of the Month in the event in November.

In Equitation on the Flat, Finsness is averaging a score 82 and is defeating her opponents by an average of 2.8 points. Her four MOP honors in Equitation on the Flat are the most by any Georgia rider this season. In Equitation Over Fences, she boasts a team-best average score of 83.8 and is defeating her competitors by an average of 6.5 points. She is the only rider in the event to have more than one MOP honor this season.

George Morris, the legendary horseman and U.S. show jumping chef d'Equipe, will lead these rising stars in a comprehensive program in horsemastership. 'Horsemastership' encompasses mounted sessions but stable management, veterinary care and nutrition and will be conducted by experts in the field. The aim of the training session is to develop a pipeline of young "horsemasters" for future U.S. Equestrian Teams.
