ATHENS, Ga. - Charley Thiel has signed her National Letter of Intent to become a member of the fall 2012 signing class for the Georgia equestrian team. Thiel will compete for Georgia's Western team in Reining.
"I am ecstatic and thrilled to have Charley aboard our Western squad," assistant Coach Mary Meneely said. "Charley is a very dedicated, passionate, and competitive individual whom will be a tremendous asset to the University of Georgia equestrian team! She has loved Georgia from the first time she set foot on campus and the long wait has finally arrived as she is an official Georgia Bulldog!"
The Dublin, Ohio native and member of the AQHA and the NRHA, Theil's passion for riding and accomplishing goals is apparent in her outstanding accolades and her numerous High Point, All-Around, and World Championship record. Thiel defended her AQYHA World Championship title this season by winning her second title. In addition to her AQYHA World Championship title, Thiel claimed multiple Congress Championships and placed in the top ten in Reining at the 2012 All American Quarter Horse Congress.
Recently, Thiel was named the Youth 14-18 High Point Champion in her NRHA state affiliate, the Central Ohio Reining Horse Association (CORHA) and finished second in Youth Reining for the Ohio Quarter Horse Association. She was also chosen as a member of the 2012 Team USA World Cup Riders and traveled to Germany where her and Team USA competed against riders from all over the world.
In addition to riding, Thiel is also committed to academics and has maintained a GPA of 3.5 at Dublin Coffman High School.
