ATHENS, Ga.- Head Coach Meghan Boenig has announced that Vanessa McCarthy has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her riding career as a member of the Georgia equestrian team beginning in 2014-15. McCarthy is the daughter of Michael and Diane McCarthy. She has one brother, William, and one sister, Olivia who played Division I lacrosse at Bryant University in Rhode Island.
"Vanessa has an impressive record in the show ring due to her wonderful position and great instincts,” said Assistant Coach Lisa Anderson. “She has both the equitation and jumper miles that will serve her well on the variety of horses we see in competition. We are thrilled to have her!"
The Sea Girt, N.J., native brings with her a long list of accomplishments to Georgia. McCarthy was the winner of the 2012 Marshall and Sterling Junior Medal Final and rode to top 30 finishes in the 2012 and 2013 USET Talent Search East Finals. She placed fifth in the Flat Phase Capital Challenge Horse show and sixth at the 2013 HITS Equitation Championship.
McCarthy intends to major in Education at Georgia.
