ATHENS, Ga. – Head Coach Meghan Boenig has announced that Sammie Johnson has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her riding career as a member of the Georgia equestrian team beginning in 2014-15. Johnson is the daughter of Kyle and TC Johnson and as two siblings, Michael and Jessie.
“I am excited to have Sammie Johnson join the Georgia equestrian team,” Associate Head Coach Mary Meneely said. “She brings years of experience competing at a high level with some of the best coaches in the nation! In addition to her successful riding career Johnson maintains exceptional grades. She has had aspirations to be a part if this amazing team and her determination and efforts have paid off. We can’t wait for her to join us here at Georgia.”
A native of Bridgeport, W.V., Johnson comes to Georgia as a Youth AQHA Champion, a Youth AQHA Supreme Champion and has been a finalist multiple times at the AQHA Congress in Western Pleasure. Johnson has also won Showmanship Superior, Horsemanship Superior and Western Pleasure Superior titles in her youth career. In addition, she has multiple Youth All-Around Championships.
In addition to riding, Johnson is also an Executive Board Member of Bridgeport High School’s Student Council, a Student Body Officer and a member of the National Honor Society.
