ATHENS, Ga. – One of America’s top reining recruits, Claudia Spreng becomes the first member of the 2012 Georgia equestrian signing class, having signed her National Letter of Intent to ride for the Bulldogs, head coach Meghan Boenig announced. Spreng will compete on Georgia’s Western team in the Reining event.
“The first time I met Claudia I knew she was meant to be a member of the University of Georgia equestrian team,” assistant coach Mary Meneely said. “Claudia excels academically as well as athletically and has a magnetic personality. We are so thrilled to have her talent and expertise join the Bulldog nation and I cannot wait until next fall to see Claudia step foot into the saddle and begin her collegiate career here at Georgia!”
The New Smyrna Beach, Fla., native is the daughter of August and Claudia Spreng. She is a member of the National Reining Horse Association and has won both a world championship and a year-end championship. She is also a North American Affiliate Championship winner and has multiple career winsunder her belt.
Claudia has been the “poster” rider for NRHA and has traveled the country, competing on multiple horses. She is well equipped to compete and be successful at the college level.
“She brings with her years of athletic success in the Reining industry and is a highly respected athlete,” continued Meneely. “I am just thrilled to have Claudia join the reining squad and I look for her to be a major contributor to the UGA Equestrian team.”
Committed to academic excellence, Spreng is an IB student and maintains a GPA of 3.78 at Spruce Creek High School. As The University of Georgia remains one of the top academic schools in the country athletes such as Claudia are highly sought after to maintain both academic and athletic excellence.
In addition to riding, Spreng enjoys traveling and racing cars.
