OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Megan Hawkins was named the Reserve Champion at the inaugural AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge. After earning the No. 2 seed in the event, Hawkins rode against Lauren Crivelli of Fresno State. Hawkins outscored Crivelli 152.5-144 to earn a spot in the final round against Carey Nowacek of Texas A&M. Hawkins posted a score of 137.5, but was edged by Nowacek’s score of 149.5 to earn the Reserve Title
Hawkins was nominated to ride in the Horsemanship Challenge following her stellar performance throughout the 2011-12 season. Hawkins will be competing alongside fellow All-Americans Johnna Letworth of South Carolina, Katy Krshka of Oklahoma State and Carey Nowacek of Texas A&M. Indy Roper of Auburn, Lauren Crivelli of Fresno State, Alexie Estrado of TCU and Parris Rice of Baylor were also invited to show.
An All-American, Hawkins finished the regular-season with a record of 12-2 and 5 MVP titles in western horsemanship. Hawkins posted a season-high score of 78 twice this season, the first coming against South Carolina and the second versus Fresno State.
Hawkins followed her dominating regular-season performance with an MVP-winning ride at the Southern Equestrian Championship. At the NCEA Championship, Hawkins rode to a 1-2 record, including a win over Whitney Unkefer of Kansas State.
Hawkins will join her UGA teammates in Brookings, S.D., for a competition against South Dakota State and New Mexico State this weekend.
