Athens, Ga. – The No. 3 University of Georgia equestrian team closes out the fall portion of its season this weekend when it makes its first-ever trip to Brookings, S.D., to take on both South Dakota State and No. 9 New Mexico State. Georgia will face the South Dakota State Hunt Seat team on Friday, before it faces the SDSU Western team and New Mexico State on Saturday.
Georgia enters the weekend with a 2-2 record, while SDSU is 2-3 and New Mexico State is 3-3 on the season.
The Bulldogs are looking to end a two-match skid this weekend, having lost to both South Carolina and Auburn. Despite the two losses, Georgia had strong individual performances, as Carly Anthony (Equitation on the Flat) and Abby O'Mara (Equitation Over Fences) each earned MOP honors against South Carolina with scores of 76 and 84, respectively. Bulldog riders picked up three-of-four MOP honors against Auburn, with Anthony earning scores in the 90s to take the awards in both Equitation on the Flat and Equitation Over Fences. Maria Salazar scored a meet-best score of 76 to win MOP honors in Horsemanship.
Georgia has never faced South Dakota State, but owns a 4-0 record against New Mexico State. The last time Georgia and New Mexico State was in 2010 when the Bulldogs came away with an 11-5 win in Las Cruces, N.M.
