"We are very proud of Hannah and Kylee for not only qualifying to compete in one of the most acclaimed and competitive equitation tests in the country, but for making a very difficult course look smooth and easy!" assistant coach Lisa Anderson said.
Arbuckle, the 2010 ASPCA Maclay Regional Medal Finals champion, had a beautiful, technically correct first ride and was asked to return and ride on the flat for the judges.
Spiegler, a Tappahannock, Va., native rode well, but just missed the cutoff for the second phase of the flat competition.
Though not competing at the Maclay, Kelsey Thatcher qualified for the same National Horse Show, riding in amateur hunter classes. She earned consistent ribbons in each of her classes. Thatcher entered the ring following her North American League Low Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper Finals championship at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show on Oct. 23. Thatcher scored a winning time of 33.022 to claim the title.
The trio and the rest of the third-ranked Georgia equestrian team will return to the Georgia Equestrian Complex on Friday when they welcome No. 1 Auburn to Bishop, Ga. The meet will start at 1 p.m., and admission is free.
