ATHENS, Ga. - Freshman Liza Finsness of the Georgia equestrian team has been named to the prestigious Rolex/USEF Show Jumping Ranking List. The list is comprised of the top riders in the nation based upon their performances and points accumulated throughout the year. The list includes top amateur, professional, and Olympic riders. Finsness is the only NCEA rider to be named to the list.
“It is so exciting to have an athlete of her caliber on our team” Head Coach Meghan Boenig said, “We are very proud of her as it shows her work ethic, determination, and talent, something that we’re seeing in her practices every day.”
As a result of finishing in the top 36, Finsness has qualified to compete in the 1.6 meter Indoor National Finals in both Harrisburg, Pa., and Lexington, Ky., this fall aboard her horse Ormsby Hill.
“The atmosphere there is electric,” Finsness said of the Finals. “The jumps are huge and the ring is very small, so it adds a lot of difficulty. The fact that I get to have this once in a lifetime experience is incredible.”
Finsness and the top-ranked Georgia equestrian team kick off the season on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 10 a.m., when it welcomes Fresno State to the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga.
