Sept. 18, 2013
ATHENS, Ga. – Fans will have the opportunity to get a sneak peek of the No. 1-ranked Georgia equestrian team when it kicks off its 2013-14 season on Friday, Sept. 20 with the annual Red and Black Scrimmage at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga. The scrimmage begins at 4 p.m., and admission is free.
“We are really excited about this weekend,” Head Coach Meghan Boenig said. “This meet is predominately about getting riders into the ring and showing for the first time in this type of environment. I am looking forward to seeing our incredibly talented athletes getting into the arena for the first time. This will be the best possible prep for our opening meet Sept. 29 against Fresno State.”
In addition to seeing the Bulldogs take to the ring for the first time, fans will also have the chance to see changes to the opening ceremonies, as well as experience the fan plaza for the first time. Schedule posters and magnets will be available to fans, while the Mane Dawgs Booster Club will be giving away ice cream sandwiches.
The Bulldogs look to build off its successful 2012-13 campaign that saw Georgia finish with an overall record of 8-4. The Bulldogs earned their third-straight NCEA Reserve Title and were also the runners-up a year ago for the NCEA Hunter Seat National Championship. Georgia's Western squad finished third.
Georgia returns 21 riders who were regulars in the lineup last season, including two All-Americans and six riders who earned a spot on an All-SEC team. Georgia also signed an impressive class this season, giving the Bulldogs talent and depth in every event.
Georgia’s regular-season gets underway Sept. 29 at 10 a.m., when the Bulldogs host Fresno State.
