ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia women's equestrian team and men's tennis team have been named recipients of the Faculty Athletics Representatives Award for earning the highest team grade point average (GPA) during the 2013-14 academic year.
This marks the first time the men's tennis team has claimed the honor since the 2000-01 season, the conclusion of the team's six-year run earning the award. It is the second time that the equestrian team has been named recipients of the award, first earning the honor in 2002-03.
The men's tennis squad averaged a team GPA of 3.25 during the year, while equestrian compiled a 3.404 average. Cross country (3.13), who won the award the previous three seasons, and swimming (2.98) rounded out the top three finishers on the men's side, while swimming (3.403) and cross country (3.36) finished second and third, respectively, in the women's standings.
A total of 20 Georgia student-athletes achieved a GPA of 4.0 during the Fall 2013 semester, while 29 student-athletes earned a 4.0 during the Spring 2014 semester. Also during the fall semester, 125 student-athletes compiled a GPA between 3.5-3.99, while 118 athletes achieved the same mark during the spring semester.
