2013-14 Equestrian Schedule

ATHENS, Ga. – University of Georgia equestrian head coach Meghan Boenig has announced the 2013-14 schedule. The schedule includes 12 regular-season competitions, including six against Southeastern Conference teams.

“The strength of our team’s 2013-14 schedule will stride us forward to compete for both an SEC and a National Championship title,” Boenig said. “It not only includes the challenge of our SEC rivals, but also challenges our training during the months of November and February with several back-to-back weekend meets. I believe we can’t get any better preparation for post-season than testing ourselves in this manner.

The team will kick the 2013-14 campaign off on Friday, Sept. 20 when it hosts the annual Red and Black Scrimmage at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga.

The regular-season is set to begin on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 10 a.m., when the Bulldogs welcome Fresno State to Bishop, Ga. Georgia and Fresno State faced off last year in Fresno, Calif., with Georgia coming away with a 12-4 victory.

Georgia’s SEC slate gets underway on Friday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m., when the Bulldogs travel to Blythewood, S.C., to take on reigning SEC Champion South Carolina. Georgia and South Carolina split the two regular-season matches last season, with the Gamecocks taking the first meet 11-8. Georgia followed by upsetting then-No. 1 South Carolina 11-8 in the final regular-season meeting. The schools met again in the SEC Championship where the Gamecocks edged Georgia 10-7. Georgia’s Hunt Seat got the better of South Carolina at the NCEA Championship, taking a 5-3 win in the semifinal round.

The Bulldogs return home on Friday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m., when they welcome the Texas A&M Aggies to the UGA Equestrian Complex. Georgia went 3-0 against Texas A&M last season, while the Western team took a 5-2 win over the Aggies at the NCEA Championship. The teams opened the season against one another last year, with the Bulldogs taking a convincing 17-5 win from Texas A&M. In the spring, the Bulldogs made the trek to College Station, Texas where they won 16-6. The two teams faced off in the SEC Championship as well, with the Bulldogs taking a 15-5 win to complete the season-sweep.

Georgia will close out the fall portion of its SEC schedule on Friday, Nov. 15 when it travels to Auburn, Ala., to take on the defending National Champion Auburn Tigers. Auburn took both of last year’s regular-season meetings by score of 13-7 and 12-8, respectively. Despite not facing one another on either the Hunt Seat or Western side of the NCEA Championship bracket, the teams were tied for the team championship, resulting in a ride-off between the two schools. It is the second time that Georgia and Auburn have decided the National Champion by way of a ride-off. The Tigers won the ride-off 3-1, claiming the title, with the Bulldogs taking home its third-straight Reserve Championship.

On Thursday, Nov. 21 Paige Stawicki will represent Georgia at the AQHA Horsemanship Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, before rejoining her team in Manhattan, Kan., on Friday, Nov. 22 for its meet against Kansas State. Georgia and Kansas State did not meet in the regular-season last year, but faced off in the semifinal round of the Western bracket at the NCEA Championship. Kansas State took a 5-2 win in the meeting.

The following day, Nov. 23, the Bulldogs will make the trip to Fort Worth, Texas to take on TCU in the final meet of the fall. It will be the first meeting between Georgia and TCU since the 2011-12 season, when the team faced off twice, with the Bulldogs taking both meets by scores of 16-4 and 9-8.

The season gets back underway on Jan. 24-25 when Georgia travels to Martin, Tenn., for a pair of competitions against Tennessee-Martin and Delaware State. Georgia defeated both of the teams last year, taking a 17-3 win over Delaware State and a 15-3 win over Tennessee-Martin.

On Saturday, Feb. 1, Georgia will make a return trip to College Station, Texas to take on Texas A&M.

Georgia will return home to begin a three-meet home stand on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m., when it welcomes South Carolina to Bishop, Ga. The Bulldogs will then host Auburn on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m., before wrapping up the regular-season against New Mexico State on Friday, March 7 at 2 p.m.

The 2013-14 SEC Championship will be held March 28-29 and hosted by South Carolina in Blythewood, S.C. The season will conclude April 17-19 at the NCEA Championship in Waco, Texas.
