BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior Julia Hemingway has been named to the 2014 Equestrian Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, it was announced today by the league office.
Currently, Hemingway serves as the Co-President and Community Service Chair of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at Georgia. In her roles with SAAC, she has introduced student-athletes to over 15 organizations and causes.
Over the past four years, the Alpharetta, Ga., native has been involved with the Athens-Clarke County Animal Control, where she has visited monthly to give attention to dogs and cats. She has also volunteered her time at the Athens-Clarke County Homeless Shelter, Campus Kitchen’s Meals on Wheels, Elementary Outreach, Girl Power Day, Georgia’s Learn, Play, Excel Initiative, Safe Routes to School, Habitat for Humanity, UGA Special Olympics, Homeruns for Hometown Rivals, The Boys and Girls Club, the Dawg Trot 5K, the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, the Hunger Bowl, Adopt-a-Family and UGA Relay For Life.
She, along with fellow equestrian Jacklyn Beckley, have also reintroduced Gear for Greatness, which asks all student to donate their gently used sporting equipment to the Athens Boys and Girls Club, in an effort to influence the local youth to get involved in sports.
Hemingway joins Melena Smith (Auburn), Adele Norton (South Carolina) and Paige Linne (Texas A&M) as members of the 2014 team.
