The Georgia equestrian team will pause in its preparations for April's Southern Equestrian Championships to have a little fun by hosting the second annual Alumni Challenge on March 25 at 3:30 p.m. at the Animal Science Arena on South Milledge Avenue.

The Challenge will feature a competition between former UGA riders and current team members in a Red versus Black match of modified polo. In the polo match, riders will compete six-on-six using brooms in a simplified format according to eight rules.

"It's a nice time for the alumni and the current team members to see each other," Georgia head coach Meghan Boenig said. "The competition is fun."

Last year's equestrian team beat the alumni 2-0 in two 15-minute halves. All participants are required to pay $10 for a t-shirt and picture. Interested alumni can contact Rhiannon Shoults at rshoults@sports.uga.edu or (706)542-5817 to register.

The Bulldogs will host the Southern Equestrian Championships, which equates to competition for the Southeastern Conference title, April 7-8 at the Animal Science Arena on South Milledge Avenue.

  • Brooms can not be used to hit horses or riders.
  • Brooms may not be swung or carried higher than parallel to the ground, except when switching sides to hit.
