Despite busy days filled with riding lessons, stable chores, and classes, the 66 riders on the Georgia equestrian team have been taking time out of their rigorous schedules to serve the Athens community.

"So many of us are privileged," senior Rebecca McNorrill, the team's philanthropy chair, said. "Especially has an athlete you have so much given to you, so you might as well give back."

Each month 8-10 team members spend an afternoon with 4th and 5th graders in an after-school program at Fowler Drive Elementary School.

"It's a low-income area so a lot of the kids have to stay after school anyway because their parents work," McNorrill said. "We just hang out with the after-school kids."

Every member of the team is required to participate in the program at least once. The riders spend two hours with the kids and occasionally bring horses to visit as well.
