Anthony, Lantz Named SEC Rider of the Month

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Carly Anthony and McKenzie Lantz of the Georgia equestrian team have each been named the Southeastern Conference February Rider of the Month, it was announced today by the league office. Anthony earned the honor in Equitation on the Flat, while Lantz earned it in Reining.

Anthony went 4-0 for the month of February, posting a 4-0 record, with two of her four wins coming on the road. During the spring season, Anthony has defeated her opponents by an average of 8.8 points. Georgia lone meet in January was counted towards stats for the February honors, as no awards were given for the month of January. 

The Redmond, Wash., native averaged a score of 81.5 over the four meets. She saved some of her best performances for her competitions against riders from ranked opponents. She handed her opponent from then-No. 1 South Carolina a 76-69 loss before defeating her foe from Auburn 84-70. In her final meet of the month, she took home MOP honors for the third time this season with her 13-point, 88-75 win over her opponent from Delaware State.

Lantz is 4-0 during the spring schedule, with two wins coming on the road. The junior also earned two MOP honors, one against Fresno State and the other against No. 2 Auburn, bringing her season total to four. Among her wins were a pair of victories against teams who were ranked either No. 1 or No. 2 in the nation at the time of competition.

Hailing from Fremont, Mich., Lantz averaged a score of 72.4 and defeated her opponents by an average of 8.6 points. Against Fresno State, Lantz rode to a score of 71.0, earning her MOP honors for her effort. She followed that performance with a 2.5 point win over her opponent from South Carolina. Against Auburn, Lantz rode to a 73.5-70 win over her for, picking up the high score for the event and her second MOP honor of the month. Lantz rounded out the month with a 28-point win over her opponent from Delaware State.

Anthony and Lantz and the Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday, March 2 when they host UT-Martin on Senior Day in the final home meet of the season at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga.
