WACO, Texas – The Georgia equestrian team made a jump to No. 3 in the latest National Collegiate Equestrian Association poll. Georgia is now 8-3 on the year and 4-2 in the Southeastern Conference.
The Bulldogs vaulted from No. 7 to No. 3 after handing the Auburn Tigers an 11-8 loss last weekend in their final SEC matchup last weekend. Highlighting the meet were Liza Finsness (Equitation on the Flat), Rachel Kolb (Horsemanship), and McKenzie Lantz (Reining) who were awarded with MOP honors.
After falling 3-2 in Equitation Over Fences, the Bulldogs took a 4-1 win in Horsemanship that put them up 6-4. Georgia dropped a 3-2 decision to the Tigers in Equitation on the Flat, but the Reining squad delivered a 3-1 victory that sealed the 11-8 win.
Overall, three SEC teams are ranked in the top three in the country, as South Carolina holds on to its No. 1 ranking and Auburn checks in at No. 2. The two teams will battle this weekend to determine the No. 1 seed at the SEC Championship. Georgia will be the No. 2 seed.
The Bulldogs will return to action Friday, March 7 when they host New Mexico State. It will be the final home meet of the season and Georgia will honor its 23 seniors on Senior Day.
