Georgia Equestrian Returns to Action This Weekend
Feb. 23, 2012 ATHENS, Ga. – Fresh off its win over No. 1 Auburn, the third-ranked University of Georgia equestrian team will return to the UGA Equestrian Complex this weekend, as it hosts No. 4 Baylor and Fresno State. This will be the last regular-season meet in Bishop, Ga., but the Bulldogs will host the Southern Equitation Championship that will feature South Carolina and Auburn. Georgia enters the weekend with an 8-1 record on the season, including a 4-0 mark at home and a 6-1 record against ranked opponents. The Bulldogs will face Baylor on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., before taking on Fresno State at 9 a.m., on Sunday. The Bulldogs are 7-0 against Baylor, with its last win coming in 2011, when the Bulldogs won 11-8. Georgia faced Fresno State last season, cruising to a 14-2 win. Carly Anthony continues to shine for the hunt seat team, riding to a 14-3 record and nine MVPs this season. Michelle Morris has also enjoyed a successful season, owning a combined 12-4 record in both equitation and equitation on the flat. Morris was instrumental in Georgia’s wins over Kansas State, Auburn and South Carolina. Megan Hawkins has been instrumental in the success of the horsemanship team, earning key points in Georgia’s two wins over Auburn and two wins over South Carolina. Hawkins also leads the horsemanship team with three MVPs. In reining, Sami Belcher leads the way with a 6-2 record.
