COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of Georgia equestrian team maintained its No. 1 ranking in the latest NCEA Coaches Poll released today. The Bulldogs narrowly edged both Auburn and Oklahoma State, with only two points separating the top three teams this week.
The Bulldogs are 5-3 on the season, with its most recent win coming on the road against then top-ranked South Carolina. Auburn finished second in the voting and is 6-1 on the year. Oklahoma State is one pout behind Auburn, having won five competitions in a row and seven of its last eight meets.
Kansas State moves up to No. 4 this week, as South Carolina dropped its fourth-straight meet to fall to fifth. Baylor and Texas A&M remain tied at sixth, as the Aggies get set to travel to Blythewood for the first time in four years to face the Gamecocks.
Texas Christian holds steady at No. 8, as the Horned Frogs have won two straight heading into this weekend’s meet against Oklahoma State. Despite picking up its first lost of the spring, SMU managed to move up this week one spot to ninth.
Also inexplicably, South Dakota State falls down one spot into a tie with New Mexico State at No. 10. The Jacks have won five meets in a row and have not suffered a loss since Oct. 20. New Mexico State moves up from being unranked, despite the fact that the Aggies have lost three in a row and have not won a meet since Oct. 13.
The collegiate coaches competing under the National Collegiate Equestrian Association umbrella initiated the national poll. The next coaches poll is scheduled to be released on March 6 at Noon ET.
