ATHENS, Ga. - Senior Abby O'Mara has been named the NCEA January Rider of the Month in Equitation Over Fences, it was announced today. It is the first honor for O'Mara and the third time this season that a Georgia rider has earned the honor.
O'Mara went 2-0 in the month of January, picking up wins over Delaware State and UT-Martin. The Rumson, N.J., native earned MOP honors in both meets after riding to a score of 85 in both competitions. Her average score of 85 was the highest among Georgia Hunt Seat riders during the month.
In addition to picking up a pair of wins, O'Mara also defeated her opponents by an average of nine points, the highest margin of victory of any Georgia Fences rider in the month of January. On her way to her two victories, O'Mara defeated her opponent from Delaware State by 12 points and her opponent from UT-Martin by six points.
O'Mara and the rest of the Georgia equestrian team gets back in action on Feb. 22 when they face the Auburn Tigers at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga. The meet will begin at 2 p.m. and admission is free.
