ATHENS, Ga. --- The University of Georgia Equestrian Team climbed to the No. 1 spot in the national coaches’ poll during the fall portion of its 2009-10 schedule.  Meanwhile, the Bulldogs also made their customary strides in the classroom with another strong academic performance during Fall Semester.

Of the 60 student-athletes on the 2010 Georgia squad, 39 earned appointment to the UGAA Athletic Director's Honor Roll for having GPAs of at least 3.0 last fall.  Twenty-one earned GPAs between 3.0 – 3.49 while 16 more earned marks between 3.5 and 3.99.  In addition, sophomore Alex Andes and junior Anastasia Bobilev both earned 4.0 GPAs .

"We are really happy with the progress our girls have made, for sure," Boenig said.  "It's always a goal of ours to improve our team GPA by a tenth each semester.  A lot of factors went into making this a successful semester.  The efforts of our girls -- making good use of tutoring, study hall and other resources -- helped produce great results."

The Bulldogs went 6-1 in dual-meet competition last fall, including 12-8 win over then top-ranked Auburn in their last meet.  They’ll resume the 2010 season on Feb. 13 with a home duel against New Mexico State.
