BISHOP, Ga. – The Red team edged out the Black team 10-9, as the University of Georgia equestrian team took to the ring for the first time for the annual Red and Black Scrimmage on Friday afternoon in Bishop, Ga. Leading the way for the Red team were MVPs Abby O’Mara (Equitation on the Flat), Rachel Kolb (Horsemanship) and Lauren Garmon (Reining). Chloe Simon picked up MVP honors in Equitation Over Fences for the Black team.
“We had a very successful day on a beautiful afternoon,” head coach Meghan Boening said. “I was very impressed with the rides, particularly the ones from our MVPs. I was encouraged to see that three of our four MVP-winning rides came from freshmen. More than the competition though, I was very proud of the team spirit, camaraderie and the support that everyone had for their teammates. This kicked off, what I think, will be a great season for us.”
