WACO, Texas- The Georgia equestrian team will advance to the finals of the NCEA National Championship after defeating No. 2 seed Oklahoma State 8-6 Saturday afternoon at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas.
Georgia will take on the No. 1 seed South Carolina for the title. It will be the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. The Bulldogs and the Gamecocks last met at the Southeastern Conference Championship when the meet resulted in a tie, with South Carolina winning in raw score.
The Bulldogs dominated the Hunt Seat events, giving up one point in both Equitation on the Flat and Equitation Over Fences. Georgia went 3-1 in Flat with Meg O’Mara, Kylee Arbuckle and Liz Finsness earning their points.
The Reining squad dropped a 3-1 decision to the Cowgirls. Lauren Tieche earned the lone point for the Bulldogs with a score of 134.
In Fences, Abby O’Mara and Finsness took their points before Arbuckle and OSU’s Sammy Elser rode to a tie after scoring 158 points each. Meg O’Mara took the final point by defeating Andrea Robbins 166-for Georgia to seal the event 3-0.
The Cowgirls earned a 2-1 decision over the Bulldogs in Horsemanship. OSU’s Lindsey McMullen took the first point before Paige Stawicki earned a 148.5 over Ty Paris’s 145. Sara Parr and Katy Krshka rode to a 153-point tie and earned the highest score of the competition in Horsemanship. OSU picked up the final point to secure the 2-1 victory.
