BISHOP, Ga. - The No. 1 University of Georgia equestrian team took a 15-3 win over UT-Martin on Saturday afternoon, March 2, at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga. Prior to the start of the meet, the Bulldogs honored their seniors who have combined for over 227 points in their careers in the Red and Black. The Bulldogs improve to 7-4 on the season.
For the second meet in a row, the Bulldogs swept the MOP awards, with Carly Anthony (Equitation on the Flat), Sarah Milliren (Equitation Over Fences), Paige Stawicki (Horsemanship) and McKenzie Lantz (Reining), each picking up the honor.
Georgia started the competition with a 3-2 win in Equitation Over Fences. Milliren scored the first point of the day for Georgia, picking up MOP honors with her 83-78 win over Kara Bergenty. Abby O'Mara followed with an 83-76 win over Katie Miranda that gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Nora Wilson scored UT-Martins first point with her 80-70 win. Megan Southam sealed Georgia's 3-2 win in Equitation Over Fences with a 79-68 victory over Hunter Ralston. Reid Rickett rounded out the competition with an 81-78 win that gave UT-Martin its second point of the day.
The Bulldogs swept UT-Martin in Horsemanship 4-0 behind winning rides by Maria Salazar, Megan Hawkins, Anna Sasser, Brittany Lynch and Stawicki. Salazar led off with a 73-68 win over Michelle Chulock. Hawkins extended Georgia's Horsemanship lead to 2-0 after defeating Laurel Ellzey 77.5-70.5 Sasser and Amy Guenther rode to a 74-74 tie before Lynch grabbed a 67-62.5 win over Taylor Evans. Stawicki wrapped up the Horsemanship competition with her MOP-winning 79.5-67.5 win over Candice Fulcher.
Holding a 7-2 lead in the competition, Georgia swept Equitation on the Flat 5-0. Southam started the run with her 80-72 win over Rickett. Caitlyn Francis then picked up an 88-84 win over Ralston to extend Georgia'a lead to 2-0 in the event. Anthony followed with her MOP-winning, 87-80 victory over Mykaela VanSelus that brought the score to 3-0. Gleeson rode to a 76-63 win over Bergenty before Grace Rogers sealed the sweep with her 85-80 win over Emily Candelmo.
Leading 12-2, Georgia sealed the 15-3 win over UT-Martin with a 3-1 win in Reining. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the event, with Lantz, Samantha Belcher and Becca Haaland each scoring a winning ride. Lantz got the event started with her MOP-winning 69-64.5 win over Laney Hixson. Belcher then defeated Guenther 71.5-68.5 to give Georgia a 2-0 edge. Haaland scored Georgia's final point of the day with her 69-62.5 victory over Fulcher.
Georgia closes out the regular season next Friday, March 8, when it travels to College Station, Texas to take on Texas A&M.
