ATHENS --- The Georgia basketball programs will host "Basketbash!" at Stegeman Coliseum on Friday, Oct. 11 from 7-10 p.m. to celebrate the opening of their pre-season practices.  

The event will provide fans with a sneak peak at the 2013-14 basketball teams and will also include interactive games, giveaways for UGA students and autographs with both teams from 7-8 p.m. on the Smith Street concourse. Basketbash! will be hosted by Ryan Cameron, V103 radio personality and Atlanta Hawks announcer.

The Bulldogs will open practices on Sep. 27, their first day allowed to due so under NCAA rules.

"We felt like last year's Basketbash! event was such a great success that we're really excited about having it again," Georgia coach Mark Fox said.  "Our players enjoyed it.  Our fans enjoyed it.  We believe it's a terrific way to start our season."

The Lady Bulldogs will begin official pre-season practices on Oct. 4 or 5.

"Last year's first Basketbash! was a fantastic event and I'm excited to see it grow this year and in the future," Georgia Lady Bulldogs coach Andy Landers said. "We had a great turnout and a strong mix of students and families a year ago. It's a great chance for fans to get to meet all of Georgia Basketball's players, both ours and the men."

The first 1,000 UGA students in the lower section of Stegeman will receive Basketbash! t-shirts and tumblers. In addition, students in the lower section will be eligible to win prizes, including a Kindle Fire, iPad and gift cards.

From 7-8 p.m., both the Georgia men's and women's basketball team will sign autographs on the Stegeman Coliseum concourse. Face painting and balloon artists also will be available on the concourse at that time.

From 8-9:30, the basketball teams will conduct workouts and the popular halftime act Simon Sez will entertain the crowd. 

The event is being co-hosted by the UGA Athletic Association and University Union Student Programming Board. Admission is free. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs' season opener is slated for Friday, Nov. 8 against Wofford in Athens, while the Lady Bulldogs christen their campaign two days later on Nov. 10 by hosting Presbyterian. Season tickets are on sale now for both the programs and can be obtained logging onto
