ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia's Erika Ford was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday by the league office in Birmingham, Ala., after averaging 9.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in Lady Bulldog victories over Furman and Arkansas.
Ford, a 5-9, guard from Alpharetta, scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds against the Paladins to post the first double-double of her career. Ford scored 12 first-half points to lead Georgia to a season-best 49 points prior to intermission.
Against Arkansas, Ford came off the bench to make an immediate impact. She scored five of the first eight points in a 21-4 run that turned a 16-7 deficit into a 28-20 lead.
For the season, Ford is averaging 6.4 points and 3.4 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs, including four double-figure scoring outputs.
Georgia, which moved up one spot to No. 16 in this week's edition of the Associated Press poll released on Monday, is currently 12-2 overall and 1-0 in SEC play.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Knoxville to face No. 6 Tennessee at 7 p.m. ET. That contest will be televised regionally on CSS.
Georgia's next home game is Thursday, Jan. 12 when the Lady Bulldogs host Florida at 7 p.m. ET. The first 500 UGA students at the game will receive a "Beat Florida" t-shirt, pizza and drinks.
