Cameron Newbauer, the director of basketball operations for the Georgia men's basketball program from 2005-07, was named an assistant coach for Lady Bulldog Basketball in June 2007.

Newbauer's seemingly endless supply of energy played a major role in the Lady Bulldogs' inking one of the nation's top-five recruiting classes in 2008, and he helped follow that up by Georgia inking a top-10 group a year later.

"Cameron's expertise and energy has added a great deal to our staff," Andy Landers said. "He is an excellent basketball person with tremendous people skills, and his recruiting skills have been a valuable asset to the continued success of our program. I am confident Cameron's contributions will only continue to grow as he gains more and more experience."

Newbauer was actually in his second stint with the Georgia men's staff. He rejoined the Bulldogs in the spring of 2005 after also serving as a graduate manager during the 2003-04 campaign. During the 2004-05 season, Newbauer was an assistant coach on the men's staff at Siena College, where he also was that program's director of basketball operations from 2001-03.

"I was extremely excited about the opportunity to work with a Hall of Fame coach in an elite program that is a national championship contender," Newbauer said. "When you take a look at our facilities and the tradition at Georgia, it was a chance I had to jump at. Not only that, but I was able to stay in the Bulldog family, which was very important to me."

Newbauer originally came to Athens after working with former Georgia men's head coach Dennis Felton during a summer spent with USA Basketball. Newbauer served as an administrative assistant/manager for the U.S. National Team competing at the 2003 Junior World Championships in Greece. Felton was an assistant coach for that squad that compiled a 7-1 record in Greece.

Newbauer also gained a vast amount of experience working several of the nation's premier basketball camps, including Five Star, Eastern Invitational, Duke University and the University of Texas.

Newbauer played one season of basketball at Madonna College in Livonia, Mich., before transferring to Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne in his hometown.

Newbauer graduated from IUPU Fort Wayne in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. In his last year there, Newbauer served as a student assistant on the basketball staff. He also was a varsity assistant coach at Leo High School, where he played basketball while a student, for three seasons while at IUPU Fort Wayne.

Newbauer earned a master's degree in recreation and leisure studies from UGA in 2009.

In May 2011, Newbauer married the former Sarah Millender, who is marketing director and a manager for Athens' Chick-fil-A Beechwood franchise, during ceremonies at UGA's Herty Field.

His younger sister, Andrea, is a sophomore guard on the Indiana basketball team.
