ATHENS, Ga. --- After opening the 2012-13 season this past weekend at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, the Georgia men’s tennis team saw four of its players land in the preseason edition of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles and doubles rankings.
The Bulldogs are paced in the singles poll by senior KU Singh at No. 10, while junior Hernus Pieters – who reached the singles final at the Southern Intercollegiates – came in at No. 36, marking career-highs for both. Singh returns from a junior season in which he went 25-5 in his first year in Athens following his transfer, a mark that included nine ranked wins and an 8-3 clip in SEC play. Sophomore Nathan Pasha cracked the singles rankings for the first time in his career at No. 123.
In doubles, the team of Pasha and Singh came in at No. 29, followed by Pieters and freshman Ben Wagland at No. 35. Wagland was also ranked the No. 6 newcomer in the nation.
The first edition of the ITA team poll will be released Jan. 3 following the conclusion of the fall season.
Georgia is next in action Sept. 21-23 at the Napa Valley Classic in Napa, Calif.
