WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- Four-time Georgia men's tennis All-American and NCAA champion John Isner on Saturday captured his second consecutive title at the Winston-Salem Open, just 30 miles from his hometown of Greensboro, N.C.

Isner rallied from a 6-3 loss in the first set this afternoon to defeat seventh-ranked Tomas Berdych 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(9) on the strength of 22 aces. Tenth-ranked Isner was seeded second for the event, and rolled into the finals with yesterday's 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(3) semifinal win over top-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

With the win, Isner improves to 10-0 at Winston-Salem and has now reached the quarterfinals or better in his last four events, including last month's victory at the Hall of Fame Championships in Newport, R.I. It marked his fifth career title in singles.

He will next play in the U.S. Open beginning this week at historic Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. Isner will be seeded ninth and opens against Xavier Malisse of Belgium.

Isner was a four-time All-American at UGA from 2004-07 and led the men's tennis team to the 2007 NCAA title. He holds the school record for wins in both singles and doubles, going 143-28 and 140-25, respectively, while in Athens.
